This month, I’m participating in a Five Minute Friday challenge called “31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes,” responding to a one-word prompt for five minutes each day in October. Click here to join in!
Although I am an introvert, I like to talk a lot. I’m a verbal processor, and I tend to wear my feelings on my sleeve, sharing more than anyone wants to know about what’s going on inside my head.
Sometimes I overwhelm people, or I say things I haven’t thought through and don’t really mean. I need to learn how to listen more and talk less.
“We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak.” -Epictetus
The conference I attended this week was about seeing Christ and seeing others. In order to see Christ, I need to stop talking and read His Word, and in order to see others, I have to stop talking and listen to what they have to say.
Lord, don’t let me miss what You want for me because I’m too busy sharing my thoughts, feelings, and opinions. Teach me to stop and listen to the perspectives of others before sharing my own.
