This month, I’m participating in a Five Minute Friday challenge called “31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes,” responding to a one-word prompt for five minutes each day in October. Click here to join in!
Comfort is an idol in my culture. We Americans tend to value convenience highly, even over some more important things. Our “need” to be comfortable and in control can hinder our growth in relationships and our ability to broaden our perspective.
I am resolved not to live for comfort, but to follow God’s leading no matter what inconvenience or pain it may cause me. I don’t need a nice car, a nice house, or nice clothes in order to be happy. All I need is Jesus.
What comforts in your life have kept you from what God wants for you? How can you deny yourself in order to serve HIm and realize your potential more fully?
[Jesus] said to him, “One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” Luke 18:22 (NASB)
